Rugby Australia reveals ambitious five-year plan to beat All Blacks

Rugby Australia has set an ambitious target of winning the Bledisloe Cup every two years and finishing in the top four at the 2027 and 2029 Rugby World Cups.

The bold statement came on Wednesday morning as the game’s national governing body published its five-year strategy document called “From green to gold”.

Big goals included beating the British and Irish Lions and getting the team to a 70 per cent success rate by 2029.

The strategy sets out the goals and standards that Rugby Australia aims to achieve and was created following a series of meetings with the game’s key stakeholders.

The game’s leaders also aim to increase participation in men’s rugby by 30 per cent and women’s rugby by 70 per cent.

“All three pillars are critical to an interconnected and thriving rugby ecosystem,” said Rugby Australia chief Phil Waugh.

“And they have all been developed in collaboration with member unions, Super Rugby clubs and RUPA.

“Australian Rugby is united, harmonious and poised for success on and off the field. The benefits of this whole-game strategy will be realized for years to come.”

“Our ultimate goal is to become the No. 1 rugby playing nation in the world by nurturing talent, promoting inclusivity and encouraging success on and off the field,” said Rugby Australia President Daniel Herbert.

“Coupled with a cohesive and energetic Australian Rugby ecosystem with once-in-a-generation major events, there has never been a better time to get involved in this great game.”
