Texas man sentenced to 100 years in prison for 2020 shootings that killed 1, wounded others in Nevada, Arizona

A. vegas A judge sentenced a Texas man to 100 years in prison for his role in a two-state shooting that saw him kill a man in Nevada on Thanksgiving Day 2020 and engage in a gunfight with law enforcement in Arizona.

Christopher McDonnell, 32, of Tyler, Texas, pleaded guilty in October to more than 20 felonies, including murder, attempted murder, murder conspiracy, weapons charges and being a felon in unlawful possession of a firearm.

Clark County District Judge Tierra Jones sentenced him Friday to at least 100 years in prison. KLAS-TV reported. He will be eligible for parole in 2120 for time served, although he is unlikely to be alive by then.

McDonnell, his brother Shawn McDonnell, 34, and Shawn McDonnell’s then-wife Kayleigh Lewis, 29, were initially slapped with dozens of charges.

The three began an 11-hour rampage on November 26, 2020, killing 22-year-old Kevin Mendiola Jr. with a random shooting at a convenience store. Henderson, Nevadaand injured many people with drive-by shooting.

The group then crossed the state line into Arizona, where they committed further shootings, including one involving a police officer.

Three suspects were arrested after the car rolled over.

Prosecutors said Lewis was driving and the two brothers shot indiscriminately out the vehicle’s windows.

The shooting ended near Parker, Ariz., after a pursuit involving Arizona Department of Public Safety officers was struck by a vehicle with Texas license plates and Shawn McDonnell was injured by rifle-wielding troopers, according to police.

Shawn McDonnell and Lewis are still awaiting trial.
