IND and OFF: Australian youngster Sam Konstas has been added to the Australian Test squad for the remaining two Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He is expected to replace Nathan McSweeney In the iconic Boxing Day Test against the Indian side in Melbourne.
The 19-year-old has impressed everyone with his remarkable performances and consistent statistics in first-class cricket and has demonstrated his potential as a rising star in the sport.

By blending his technique, temperament and ability to deal with pressure, he demonstrated his potential to become a star of the future. His ability to consistently score runs against quality bowling attacks has earned him praise from cricket experts and fans, making him a promising candidate for the higher levels of the game.

During the Big Bash League match between Sydney Thunders and Sydney Sixers, Sam Konstas was asked about his participation in the Australian team.

Sam said: “I was actually in the nets when I got the call from George Bailey and he told me I was in the Test squad. I was so excited. I called my parents straight away, they were so emotional. My mum was in tears; I was trying not to cry and my dad was so proud. It’s been an amazing journey with all its ups and downs. I appreciate their sacrifices.” I’m very grateful for it.”

The batsman played 11 first-class matches and scored 718 runs at an average of 42.23. His achievements include two centuries and three half-centuries, and his highest score is 152. In October 2024, he reached his first first-class century with an impressive 152 runs against South Australia. Remarkably, he became the youngest player to record twin centuries in a Sheffield Shield match since Ricky Ponting in 1993.

Test debutant Nathan McSweeney failed to impress fans and pundits in the first Test between India and Australia in Perth. He managed to score a total of 72 runs, with his highest score being 36. Sam Konstas is expected to make a bigger impact with his performance in the Australian team.
