Kanu Nwankwo congratulates Ademola Lookman on CAF Player of the Year win

Super Eagles legend Kanu Nwankwo has congratulated Ademola Lookman on winning the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.

Lookman, 27, was recognized for his impressive 2024 performance, including a silver medal at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and a hat-trick in the Europa League final. He beat strong competition from players like Achraf Hakimi and Serhou Guirassy to win the prestigious award.

Kanu, who won the award twice (1996 and 1998), shared a message welcoming Lookman to the elite club of Nigerian football stars who have won the title of Africa’s best. Kanu praised Lookman’s hard work and dedication, saying he was an inspiration to young Nigerians.

He said, “Dear Lookman, millions across our continent were happy to see you display your God-given talents on the football field. We were even happier when you were crowned the King of African Football.”

Kanu added that Lookman’s win showed what could be achieved with determination and encouraged young players to continue moving forward despite the challenges.

“I know how important it is for Nigeria and Africa to win the award twice. We can achieve this, just like Ademola Lookman did,” Kanu said.

Lookman now joins the list of Nigerian football greats to have won the award, including Kanu, Victor Osimhen, Victor Ikpeba, Emmanuel Amuneke and Rashidi Yekini.
