England veteran batsman Joe Root has been recalled to take part in the white-ball tour to the Indian subcontinent and the ICC Champions Trophy, which will replace the series in Pakistan.

New white ball coach, Brendon McCullumHe is looking for a brand new team, different from the team that made an embarrassing exit from the Cricket World Cup in India in 2023.

Joe Root has had a commendable testing year as the batsman is about to end the year as the No.1 ranked batsman. He is the 1st ranked Test batsman with most runs in the longest format of the game. However, he has not played limited-overs cricket for the Three Lions since his disastrous display at CWC 2023.

However, in the 50-over format, former England great all-rounder Ben Stokes could not take his place in the England limited-overs squad for the Champions Trophy. The team includes many players who have featured in Test cricket for India throughout the year, as well as fast players who can produce high pace.

England will have the likes of Mark Wood, Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse and lastly Saqib Mahmood as all these bowlers can be relied upon to produce speeds in excess of 90 mph.

Jamie Overton is undoubtedly one of the all-rounders who has attracted a lot of attention with the bat and is currently dominating Australia with both bat and ball in the Big Bash League. He replaces Sam Curran, one of England’s most consistent players, from the white-ball team.

With Will Jacks not included in the squad for the Champions Cup, Ben Duckett, along with Phil Salt, is probably the only player who could feature in the opening role for England. The middle order looks further strengthened with captain Buttler, Joe Root and also all-rounders like Jacob Bethell and Liam Livingstone.

Jamie Smith, who recently missed the series against New Zealand, has also been selected for the Champions Trophy, while Adil Rashid remains the only recognized spinner in the team.
