Emotional moment CJ Stroud is lost for words talking about Tank Dell after horror injury against the Chiefs

Texans quarterback CJ Stroud had to collect himself when asked about Tank Dell’s gruesome injury in their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The two connected for a 30-yard field goal just before Dell accidentally collided with teammate Jared Wayne, who dove toward him and hit his knee.

As medical personnel rushed onto the field, the wide receiver immediately grabbed his knee and eventually carried Dell off the field and to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Texans coach DeMeco Ryans later told reporters that Dell would spend the night in the hospital with a ‘significant’ knee injury.

Stroud was overcome with emotion at the postgame press conference after Houston lost the game 27-19 at Arrowhead.

‘The only thing you can really do is pray. “At the end of the day, the glory still goes to God,” he opened. ‘No matter what happens to me, I will be here because of the grace of Jesus. His blessing in my life and in Tank’s life.’

‘Whatever happens, however it goes, to the right or to the left, up or down, I must always praise my lord and savior. It’s not easy, but then I try to use it as motivation.’

Stroud broke down in tears after his teammate was ejected from the game early in the third quarter. This will be the second season in a row that Dell’s season was suddenly ended by injury.

Dell finished his 2023 rookie season with 709 yards and seven touchdowns for the Texans.

However, his year was cut short when he suffered a broken leg in a game against the Denver Broncos in early December.

His sophomore season will likely end with him having 45 receptions for 569 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games. The Texans are 9-6 against the AFC South, with games remaining in Baltimore and Tennessee.

Stroud finished the game with 23 completions on 39 attempts for 244 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 23 yards on two carries.

After the game, he talked about his struggle to keep playing while thanking his teammates for picking him up following Dell’s injury.

“It’s not easy to just let it go, especially as my best friend,” Stroud said. ‘It’s not easy to keep going and keep playing but I’m trying my best.’

‘My teammates helped me up. I appreciate these guys talking to me because I was going through this too. So I appreciate them just being there for me.’
