Disneyland places restriction on popular holiday item, as demand soars

Disneyland Resort guests looking to stock up on a favorite holiday treat will have to make do with just a few per customer this year or get creative, as some do.

Mickey Mouse-shaped gingerbread cookies are currently on sale for $7.49 each, but are limited to “five per person, per transaction,” according to online menus at park restaurants, including Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe and Market House.

“It’s literally Christmas in a cookie,” says park enthusiast Tiffany Calderon he told SFGATE. She said her family visits Disneyland three times a year, and they make it their mission to collect 20 Mickey gingerbread cookies to freeze at home during the holidays and eat throughout the year. “It feels like home,” he added. “Just snuggle up on the couch, watch a few Christmas movies, have some gingerbread cookies, and just — little bites, make it stick. Make it linger.”

But this year, Disneyland is trying to prevent hoarding by not only limiting the amount people can buy at once, but also occasionally suspending mobile sales to prevent items from running out.

But some guests wander around the park to order. mouse shaped cookies they’re in multiple store windows — and even making their way to the Grand Californian Hotel, where they’re sold for $10 each.

Many people state that they not only like the taste of the snack, but also that it has sentimental value.

“This is how Christmas started,” Jennifer Walker told SFGATE, remembering how she and her family would “do Christmas.” Vacation Time on Disneyland Tour, and they would serve that special cookie.”

Walker said she collected 24 cookies on her last visit to the “Happiest Place on Earth,” up from 35 this year. But that’s not all for him.

“One of them went to my parents’ grave,” he told SFGATE. “So mommy still gets the Mickey gingerbread.”

Others he gave away as business gifts.

“It turned out my co-worker had the same tradition as her mother,” Walker said. “Christmas was supposed to start when they got Mickey gingerbread cookies. So when I put them on his desk, he literally cried because he wasn’t going to make it this year. He said, ‘Oh my God, you’re going to help me keep up a Christmas tradition.'”

Gingerbread is big business Disney parks, and not just in edible form. For the lucky ones, there are plenty of items featuring festive treats like regalia and gingerbread homemade popcorn buckets that can be found around the country at Walt Disney World in Orlando.

Disneyland did not immediately respond to Fox Business’ inquiry.
