Peter Crouch and Joleon Lescott give their verdict on Pep Guardiola’s future and Man City’s title chances after a sixth defeat in eight Premier League games

Peter Crouch and Joleon Lescott announced their decisions regarding their future at Manchester City following Pep Guardiola’s latest defeat.

City lost 2-1 away to Aston Villa on Saturday and is nine points behind Premier League leader Liverpool with two games in hand.

TNT Sports pundits Crouch and Lescott were also asked whether they believed City’s chances of winning a fifth successive Premier League title were now diminishing.

City have endured a harrowing recent stretch that has seen them lose six of their last eight Premier League games.

At Villa Park, the home team took the lead with the goal scored by Jhon Duran, while Morgan Rogers made the score 2-0 in the second half.

Former City defender Lescott says he does not believe Guardiola is close to resigning.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Lescott said: “I don’t think Guardiola is close to resigning. He’s someone who has dealt with adversity. He’ll see it as a challenge. I don’t think he’s close to thinking about resigning.”

Crouch agreed with Lescott that Guardiola should stay at the club.

He said: ‘I think he’ll stay. I think he can leave whenever he wants. What matters is whether he can reverse this. The man is a genius. He changed the face of football in this country. He did not have this test anywhere he went. He’s one of the biggest we’ve ever seen. “You would expect him to turn this situation around.”

However, Crouch believes City cannot win the title this season.

He said: ‘I think you have to do it (cancel City in the title race). ‘They show no signs of championship-winning form.’
