Premier League referee fired after comments about Liverpool and former manager

English Premier League Match official David Coote was sacked after his position was deemed “untenable” by the referee board following an investigation.

Professional Game Match Authors Limited suspended Coote on November 12 while reviewing a video published by The Sun newspaper which showed him making offensive comments to friends about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

UEFA has since launched an investigation into Coote, following a video published by The Sun showing Coote using cocaine at the Euros.

Coote is also being investigated by the Football Association following allegations that he discussed with a fan the possibility of giving a yellow card to a player during the match.

According to The Sun, Coote denies any wrongdoing.

PGMOL released a statement saying Coote’s employment was terminated immediately following the conclusion of the investigation.

The arbitral tribunal said “it was found that his actions seriously violated the provisions of the employment contract and his position was untenable.”

“Supporting David Coote remains important to us and we remain committed to his welfare.”

Coote has the right to appeal the decision.

Two videos, apparently shot using a phone, circulated on social media in which Coote is seen giving his personal views about Liverpool and his long-time former manager Klopp when asked by another unidentified person.

Coote called Liverpool “shit” and described Klopp as a “German whore” who was “fucking arrogant” and “accused me of lying” after a match.

It was not immediately clear when the footage was taken and whether it had been doctored.

In another short clip, seemingly shot one after the other, two filmed participants emphasize the importance of not sharing the footage.

The Sun also published a video in November showing Coote sniffing the white powder during the summer European Championships in Germany, where he was refereeing.
