Michael Vaughan calls for Test matches to be changed to four days

There are growing calls for the ICC to shake things up after two high-profile clashes at the weekend ended within three days.

There have been just three draws in the last 50 Test matches across the sport, with more than 60 per cent of those matches not reaching the fifth day.

Speaking on SEN Radio, the former England captain explained why the change needed to be made and pointed out that the evolution spearheaded by T20 cricket was a key factor.

“We have some incredibly fun players now,” Vaughan said. YOU Afternoons.

“I believe four-day cricket would be easier to plan. It would be easy for everyone to understand that cricket starts every Thursday when we play a Test match and ends on Sunday… if it is successful.”

“Let’s be honest, players now go out and play their own thing, they don’t play the way I used to play or the way some teams played in the 80s and 90s.

“They play a type of cricket that is about winning as quickly as they can and putting the opposition under pressure.

“I really believe that managers need to seriously consider whether the time has come.”

Last year England faced Ireland in a four-day Test match which ended in the final session of the third day.

Australia will return to action against India at The Gabba on Saturday morning.
