ISL 2024-25: FC Goa sign goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani on a one-year deal

Ahead of the next season of the Indian Super League (ISL 2024-25), FC Goa announced his return Laxmikant KattimaniA 1-year contract was signed with the experienced goalkeeper.

The addition of Kattimani allows the club to benefit from his vast experience while also providing them with flexibility as they continue to build for the future, with the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Lara Sharma and Bob Jackson being part of their goalkeeping department.

Born and raised in Goa, Laxmikant Kattimani started his senior professional career during his debut at Vasco SC. I-League 2008-09 season. The following year he joined Dempo SC where he spent seven successful seasons, winning the I-League twice in 2009-10 and 2011-12.

His consistent performances earned him a place in the opening squad at FC Goa Indian Super League (ISL) in the 2014 season. In the 2015 season, the shot-stopper played a key role in helping the team move up the league standings and reach the ISL Cup final.

After a brief return to Dempo SC, where he was promoted to the I-League, Kattimani rejoined the Men in Orange for the 2016 ISL season. His journey then took him to Mumbai FC on loan, after which he signed a multi-year contract with the Gaurs ahead of the 2017-18 season. The goalkeeper transferred to Hyderabad FC in 2019, where he enjoyed a successful five-year spell.

His most notable success with the Nizams came in the 2021-22 season, when he played a key role in the ISL Cup victory under then head coach Manolo Marquez, with whom he will now be reunited at FC Goa. In the final held at the Gaurs’ home ground in Fatorda the same year, Kattimani made crucial saves, including three saves in the penalty shoot-out, to secure the trophy.

Overall, the 35-year-old has made over 175 club appearances and kept 55 clean sheets. His experience also extends to the international stage, having represented India at various youth levels, including being part of the India U23 team. SAFF Championship In Bangladesh in 2009.
