‘I mindlessly started scanning his payment QR when he…’: Bengaluru auto driver’s honest gesture goes viral after stopping passenger from double payment

Living in a city without a personal vehicle often means dealing with the frustration of rising taxi and car prices. It’s not uncommon for drivers to ask for more than the actual fare. However, a recent incident shared by a Reddit user in Bengaluru shows that not all taxi or auto drivers charge extra. While social media is full of videos of arrogant drivers, it’s important to remember that these examples are not representative of society as a whole.

In one heartwarming story, a Reddit user shared how a car driver stopped him from paying extra at the end of a trip and reminded him that he had already paid.

The Reddit user shared in his post that when the car stopped in front of a CNG pump to refuel, they started scanning the payment QR code, forgetting that they had already paid. The driver quickly noticed this and stopped the user.

“So during the trip, he stopped at a CNG pump to buy fuel equivalent to the fee and asked me to pay for it. I didn’t care, it wasn’t the first time this had happened anyway, so I did. When I got home, the User thoughtlessly asked me to stop and reminded me that I had already done this.” “I started scanning the payment QR,” he wrote.

The user said that although this was not a very important event, it was worth sharing despite all the negativities. “I know it wasn’t much, I wouldn’t have even realized I was paying him twice. But I thought I should share it here because it might be a new change of pace from other events we’ve read about,” they concluded.

In response to the incident, many praised the driver’s honesty, while others shared similar experiences.

One user said, “There are some really nice auto drivers in Bengaluru too, let’s not forget that. I’ve only had bad experiences 1/20 times. I rented taxis/cars, most are just doing their job and don’t want to mess up. Bad apples have been isolated to a few individuals, let’s not judge them all based on that. *Disclaimer: I am neither a motorist nor a union leader.”

Another user simply wrote, “Rare cases!” he wrote.
