Awoniyi Left on Bench as Elanga’s Late Goal Completes Nottingham Forest’s Comeback Against Aston Villa

Nottingham Forest defeated Aston Villa 2-1 in a thrilling match at the City Ground.

Aston Villa came into the match confident after defeating Leipzig 3-2 in the UEFA Champions League but were unable to maintain their momentum and lost to Forest.

Forest coach Nuno Espirito Santo made one change to the team that won against Manchester United last week. While Ola Aina retained his place in the starting 11, Taiwo Awoniyi remained on the bench.

The first half ended 0-0 due to both teams playing carefully. Aston Villa took the lead in the second half when John McGinn passed the ball to Jhon Duran, who put in a wonderful header.

Forest pressed hard after conceding the goal and thought they had equalized, but the goal was ruled offside. Forest made it 1-1 soon after with Nikola Milenkovic meeting Morgan Gibbs-White’s cross and scoring a superb header.

Just when Villa thought they could hold on for a draw, Elanga scored a late goal to give Forest a 2-1 win and complete their comeback. Awoniyi, who was left out of the starting lineup, watched the exciting finish from the bench.
